The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS), is a government grant for businesses to help them with the costs of installing electric vehicle charge points.

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), previously known as the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), has been offering this grant to UK businesses since November 2016.

The Workplace Charging Scheme is part of their efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change by encouraging businesses to start using electric vehicles.

There are many different things that affect how much it costs to charge an electric car: 

• How often and how far you drive the vehicle
• The battery size in that particular make and model
• Whether the charging station is at home, in a public place, or at work
• The speed you choose to charge it (slow, fast, or rapid)
• Whether you’re fully charging the battery or just topping it up
• Which electricity tariff or network the charger is on

Downtown Electrical are proud to announce that one of our electric vehicle charge point installs in Leeds was chosen for installation of the month by manufacturer EO Charging.

A tourist hostel in York can now add EV charging to the facilities it can offer its guests, with the installation of two new EO eoGENIUS 7.2kW sockets. The two charging stations in the car parking area at the Astor Hostel, a Grade II listed building close to the historic town centre, were supplied by Rapid and fitted by George Hunt, Director of Downtown Electrical Contractors.
